15:00 — Arrival
The sound of gravel underfoot is the first sign
A white noren against charred-cedar walls.
At the end of the path, step through the one bearing your villa’s name — that is home for tonight.
Ground Floor
Set your bags down beneath the double-height ceiling
Living room, dining and kitchen in one continuous space.
Beyond the great window, the garden and the open-air bath.
Whether someone is cooking or someone is in the bath, you are always within earshot.
Onsen
Open the door of the indoor bath, and there is the open air
Only the sound of water falling from the spout carries across the garden.
Above the fence, nothing but sky and the tops of the cedars.
Sauna
Heat, cool down, and back into the bath
Right beside the indoor bath, a cypress sauna.
The bath is visible through the glass, so you never lose your way between the two.
There is no one else’s turn to wait for.
Night
When the lights come on, the villa shows another face
A lantern on the terrace, light through the shoji, the sky mirrored on the water.
At night, Kinrinko is a place where the silence has a sound.
Upstairs
Close the shoji, and sleep
Upstairs, four double beds.
Leave only the soft light at floor level, slide the shoji shut, and no one will wake you until morning.
Morning — Kinrin Lake
In the morning, walk to the misty lake
Out of the villa, along the path, three minutes.
You will be in time to see the morning sun reach the steaming water.
When you return, rice and miso soup are waiting.

Each villa is named with a single character for stillness and presence.
Things without form, felt only because they are there.

In one corner of the grounds, one more building.
A dining table for ten, a kitchen, a bedroom, and a terrace facing the mountains.
